THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT EMPOWERING WOMEN:

• Less than 20% of the world's landholders are women BUT:
  • If these women had the same access to resources as men, they could increase yields on their farms by 20% - 30% reducing the global number of hungry people to 17%.
• Women make up more than two-thirds of the world's 796 million illiterate people and only 39% of rural girls attend secondary school BUT:
• Every additional year of primary school increases girls' future wages by 10-20%. 
• It also encourages them to marry later, have fewer children, and leaves them less vulnerable to violence.
